Letter from the President

Dear Members of Hadassah Chicago-North Shore Chapter,

Did you know we are just over two weeks away from Passover?  OY!  Shortly I will go into what my husband lovingly refers to as Defcon 5 mode.  This is where I disappear into the kitchen and clean and cook for days.  No one else is allowed in the kitchen and no one is allowed to disturb me.  Even though I cook for several hours each day, there is nothing to eat and no dinner prepared the days before the seders.  Anyone else have this problem???

OK, now I know most of you have received the Chapter Spring Bulletin.  I expect your reservation for both the Book & Author and the #ChooseYourImpact Conference to arrive very shortly.  These are spectacular programs you won’t want to miss,  so find your bulletin right now and send in your reservations before you too disappear into the kitchen.

Right after Pesach we will begin our full out registration and promotion for the 3rd Annual Walk for Life 3K to be held at the Chicago Botanic Garden on June 29.  So much exciting stuff! Scroll down for all the scoop.  As we move into April, the flowers will pop out of their hibernation and we will all get in the mood for a wonderful Hadassah-filled spring!

Shabbat Shalom!

Michele Rubin
Chapter President

If you haven't yet signed up for a class in the Ruderman series, you're missing a real treat!

The Chicago-North Shore chapter continues our journey to explore the many twists and turns and meet the great thinkers who struggled to improve opportunities for Jews in a rapidly changing world. An engaging DVD series of lectures on the topic has been prepared by Dr. David Ruderman, professor of Modern Jewish History at the University of Pennsylvania. The series is led by Chicago-North Shore's own Charlotte Glass, Head of School Emeritus of Solomon Schechter Day School.

"Israel: The Royal Tour" will air on WTTW in April

A one-hour documentary from Peter Greenberg of CBS focusing on Israel will air on WTTW on April 17, featuring Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (right, pictured with Greenberg).

Take a look at one review of "Israel: The Royal Tour" below.

Interested in a tour of Israel led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu? You’re in luck.  In the documentary "Israel: The Royal Tour," Netanyahu gives journalist Peter Greenberg a tour of the Holy Land, from the snow-topped peaks of the north to the deserts of the south. Together they float in the Dead Sea, take a boat through the Red Sea, and raft down the Jordan river. They visit the ancient site of Masada before traveling to Haifa to see the high-tech world of the Technion.

“It was a great mix from the Mediterranean Sea to the (Negev) desert. We had a lot of fun. He said that he hadn’t been on a bicycle for years because of security,” Greenberg told the Jewish Star. “So we put the bikes on the road and jumped on and were racing and the security guards ran after us.”

Netanyahu uses the tour to discuss the threat of terrorism facing the state of Israel, stressing that Israel must remain strong militarily and economically in order to protect its civilians.

Snapshots: Three Patients in the Neuro ICU

Natan Hadida, retired police officer, born in Tunisia, father of 6, grandfather of 25; he just had complicated brain surgery, pictured with Prof. Yigal Shoshan, head of neurosurgery.

Prof. Shoshan speaks with Adiel Abusneneh, 25, mother of five, from Hebron; her life had been threatened by a tumor in her throat that was cutting off blood to her brain. “In Hebron, everyone with a serious problem knows there’s just Hadassah,” Mrs. Abusneneh’s husband noted.

Prof. Shoshan is pictured with Edward Progher, from Moscow, also post-brain surgery. "We came here because we knew nothing in Moscow could compare to Hadassah Hospital," he said.
