New: Thank Congress for Continuing Support for Israel

Israel once again finds itself in a time of crisis, forced to take military action to defend its citizens from indiscriminate rocket and mortar fire. American support and strategic partnerships are instrumental to securing Israel’s safety. In recent weeks over 2,500 rockets have been launched at Israel from Gaza, with over 90 percent of missiles headed for populated areas were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system.

Thank Congress for passing additional Iron Dome funding and urge your legislators to continue unwavering support for Israel. Click here to thank the White House for approving additional Iron Dome funding and urge unwavering support.

Iron Dome Funding
On August 1, Congress passed an additional $225 million of funding for the Iron Dome. Additionally, the bipartisan United States-Israel Strategic Partnership Act of 2014 (H.R. 938) would strengthen U.S.-Israel cooperation in the areas of security, intelligence, technology, and commerce. The legislation reaffirms America’s commitment to provide support for the Iron Dome short-range rocket defense system, promotes energy cooperation, and codifies Israel’s status as a major strategic partner of the United States. On March 5, the House of Representatives passed the United States-Israel Strategic Partnership Act in a vote of 410-1. This legislation has been received by the Senate and was referred to the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.

Congressional Resolutions & Letters
The House passed a bipartisan resolution denouncing the use of civilians as human shields by Hamas and other terrorist organizations in violation of international humanitarian law, and the Senate is considering a similar measure. (H.Con.Res. 107 & S.Con.Res. 41). A Senate resolution (S.Res. 517) expressing support for Israel's right to defend itself and calling on Hamas to immediately cease all rocket and other attacks against Israel was also introduced.

Congress has already passed resolutions of support for the State of Israel as it defends itself against unprovoked rocket attacks from the Hamas terrorist organization (S.Res. 498 & H.Res.657). The Senate also passed a resolution (S.Res. 526) condemning the United Nations Human Right Council for its biased and unwarranted targeting of Israel and Hadassah supported a letter circulating Congress which urged the United Nations to formally recognize Gaza's rockets as an impenetrable barrier to regional peace, and to make their immediate removal a top priority.

Mobilize
See below to contact your elected officials and visit Hadassah’s Operation Protective Edge Alert Page and social media accounts (Facebook | Twitter) for the latest updates and how you can help.

The United States must lead the international community in advocating for the demilitarization of Gaza—including the immediate removal of all Hamas rockets and terrorist tunnels—and Israel’s right to sovereignty, security, and self-defense.

Hadassah also encourages its members, associates, and supporters to show support by buying Israeli goods, attending community rallies and services in support of Israel, and posting to your your social networks.
