Advocacy Update- March 27th

Tuesday, Mar 27 2018

Last week, Congress passed a $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill, which included major allocations for Hadasssh priorities: foreign aid, gun control, medical research, assault prevention and survivor programs, child care, and more. Thank your legislators for prioritizing foreign aid for Israel and keep contacting them about gun safety.

Foreign Aid for Israel
The bill included the highest amount of foreign aid to Israel ever given from the US in the areas of security assistance, missile defense programs, joint anti-tunneling technologies, new funding for the establishment of a U.S.-Israel Center of Excellence in energy and water technologies, and the passing of the Taylor Force Act, which will withhold US funding to the Palestinian Authority until it halts its policy of paying families of convicted terrorists. Thank your members of Congress for passing this important bill.

Gun Violence
The omnibus spending bill passed with three noteworthy pieces:

  • The omnibus notes that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has the authority to conduct research on the causes of gun violence, while not providing a budget for funding the research.
  • The FixNICS bill which strengthens background checks and ensures that guns do not end up in the hands of the wrong people was passed.
  • The STOP School Violence Act, providing grants to increase school security was passed.

Federal legislators have been moving toward passing additional gun control legislation. All of this movement is due to energy from members like you. Visit the National Action Center to continue the momentum!
