Speak Out for Hadassah Values

Monday, Nov 21 2016

After hearing from you, one thing has become very clear to me: the need for Hadassah members to express and practice our Zionist values is as important as ever. Hadassah has never, and will not now, sit idly by in the face of discrimination, hate or intolerance. We have grave concerns about the appointment of Stephen Bannon as White House chief strategist and senior counsel, based on his previous positions and statements about specific groups of people in our country. We call on our federal officials in the White House and Congress to condemn hatred.

Let's join together as each of us contacts our members in Congress to stand up for equality and oppose prejudice. Call your legislators or send them a letter via our National Action Center to make sure they know we will continue to fight for the empowerment of ALL women regardless of gender identity, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or party affiliation. Tell them that preserving and protecting women's health, well-being, access to opportunity and safety are not negotiable.

The new White House and Congress will begin governing our nation in January. In February, you can meet your legislators at home during their district work recess through our Day in the District program. These in-district visits have a proven track record for advocacy success. Now is the time to take full advantage of our training and network to make your voice heard. We have Hadassah members in every Congressional district in America, and we want every one of those districts to mobilize in support of Hadassah values.

I am ready to stand alongside you as we advocate for the rights of ALL people, as we combat anti-Semitism at home and abroad, as we protect equity for women, and as we strengthen the U.S.- Israel relationship.

B'Shalom,

Ellen Hershkin (signature)

National President

Yes, I oppose Bannon---and Jeff Sessions, Scott Pruitt, Andrew Puzder, Mike Pomeo, Betsy de Vos, Tom Price, Gary Cohn and Steven Mnuchin. This is a list of appointees opposed to Hadassah's values. I am a life member, and so is my daughter. My granddaughter was born in Israel. I am immediately concerned that Hadassah plans to attend the Conference of Jewish Organizations at the TRUMP Hotel. Symbolic, sure, but importantly symbolic. Please get the venue changed or refuse to attend. We must send a message to Washington and the world.

I am glad to see you have expressed deep concern over the appointment of Stephen Bannon, but, as a lifetime member of Hadassah, I am appalled by the decision of the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations to hold its Hanukkah Party at a Trump Hotel in Washington D.C. The vast majority of American Jews rejected the policies and rhetoric of Donald Trump at the ballot box. We're looking for our leaders to stand up to President-Elect Trump, not cozy up to him. I hope you'll display such leadership by joining with other members of the Conference of Presidents in calling for the event to be moved or cancelled. Thank you

Hadassah must immediately withdraw from the Chanukah party sponsored by pres. of major Jewish organizations at the Trump hotel. It is an outrage that we would be associated with such an event and traduces the statement you made in Nov: "Hadassah has never, and will not now, sit idly by in the face of discrimination, hate or intolerance."

I guess you don't know about Steve Bannon. How he is fighting BDS on College campuses and is very pro --Israel. Attached is an article by Allan Dershowitz Assessing the Bannon Appointment. https://mg.mail.yahoo.com/neo/launch?.partner=sbc&.rand=1tpe8jd5q0fdp#mail How come Hadassah isn't outraged by the nomination of Keith Ellison as the DNC chair? Again, not one word about a known anti-semite who calls Israel an apartheid country. Where are the values of the Hadassah and all the other groups? If you don't know about Ellison, check some of the website listed below: http://freebeacon.com/politics/muslim-brotherhood-tied-group-paid-keith-ellison-visit-mecca-2008/ http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2016/11/muslim_nationalist_keith_ellison_bad_news_for_women_children_gays_golden_retrievers.html I really think Hadassah should stay out of Politics. I'm with Hadassah and speaking out against this insanity that is Bannon and more absurd Trump appointments!!! Thank you for being awake and aware. We need to clean up the false ,trolling meme Facebook lies such as the Hillary meme from Black lives matter, which has been infiltrated by anti-Semites. I would suggest removing it,if possibe. When the rights of one are violated, the rights of all are threatened. I strongly protest the appointment of Stephen Bannon as White House chief strategist and senior counsel. We all need to stand together to protects the rights of all.

This letter was sent to the entire membership of Hadassah. The woman who wrote it has her information wrong, and is putting her political views out as facts. Bannon is not anti-semitic. She needs to read up on the facts- not the brain washing tactics of the mass media and CNN. This letter is appalling, and should be retracted, and an apology issued to the members.

As an Hadassah member, I am deeply saddened that you as president is taking a political stand about a person whom some believe is not a racist according to the ZOA president... I thought Hadassah was suppose to be non-political....this disappoints me deeply that you feel the need for ALL members to believe as you do do and especially living on the east coast... If Hadassah is to remain strong and vital to Israel 🇮🇱 causes in the coming years, then I believe you need to reassess what you just said. And continue with the policy of being non-political... Thank you!

Wasn't Hadassah supposed to not be involved in politics? Showing your Liberal bias , Ellen.... VERY Disappointed that you buy all the propoganda. Check the facts! Obviously you didn't.

Time to bring pressure on the members of congress and President elect to bring daily attention to the Nazi (alt right) and condemn them for their hateful anti Semitic messages.

Please send me the info that made Hadassah/Ellen Herskin equate Steve Bannon with antisemitism. Our family has been very active in Hadassah for many years and I do not like groups using the term anti-Semitic without justification. I look forward to your reply. James Cohen MD

"We have grave concerns about the appointment of Stephen Bannon as White House chief strategist and senior counsel, based on his previous positions and statements about specific groups of people in our country." Please do source the reasons for your concerns, Ellen. I cannot advocate unless I know what has been said or done. Thank you for your forthcoming response.
