Congrats, Barbara! Not sure you'd remember from the 60s when I attended Beth Israel in East Camden. But I remember how wonderful you were to us youngsters. Cantor Goldstein taught me my Bar Mitzvah, chanting the Book of Esther, and more. You were both their as I went through Hebrew High School and Midrasha. I didn't know until recently you were in Metuchen NJ. I started my first full time job in Data Processing in Metuchen, went on to AT&T and now live in Palm Springs CA. I'm happy to hear you are doing well in Israel, and at some point when I get to visit, I hope to see your street, and maybe you. Congrats again. So do you remember the Cantor's Concert around 1968? It was not so long after the 6 day war in Israel. Well in move from house to house, a tape cassette fell out of a box labelled Cantor's Concert. The one section playable is you introducing Sharm Al Shekh. If it can be transferred to other media, you may be interested in this great concert. Be well!

BG is a former Junior Hadassah President and has been a true and dedicated friend of Hadassah's Youth Aliyah villages and to all of the children at the Meir Shfeyah Youth Village for more than 50 years. The main street at Shfeyah has been named in her honor and in appreciation of her dedication to Israeli youth.

The UN Partition Plan at 70

The 1947 UN Partition Plan would be one of the final hurdles in ending a two-thousand-year exile for the Jews. Zionists around the world rejoiced as the news came in. The majority of UN member states believe in establishing a state for the Jewish people in their ancestral homeland. Though all UN General Assembly resolutions are in reality more recommendation than law, this resolution gave the Jewish Agency the last push in its many steps toward statehood. Israel declared independence just six months later.
