The Hadassah Way: Palestinian & Israeli Doctors Saving Lives

While conflict affects daily life, the liver and kidney transplant team at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, who come from all walks of life, puts saving lives above all else. On the heels of the hospital’s record number of transplant surgeries in 2017, they work with no regard for political or religious differences.

Recently NBC News followed along as HMO's Dr. Hadar Mehav, Chief of Transplantation at Hadassah Hospital and Dr. Abed Khalaileh, Director of Kidney Transplantation at Hadassah Hospital, along with their team, performed a live transplant from an Israeli donor to an Israeli Arab patient. Saving Lives Through Smartphone Technology

When Dr. Itai Gross was a resident spending the night in Hadassah’s neonatal intensive care unit, he wasn’t sure if the oxygen supply was correct for a premature baby girl. He called the attending physician. Said the senior doctor, “Don't waste time waiting for the computer to warm up. Send me a picture of the respiratory tube via WhatsApp.”
