Passover 2019

Friday, April 19th- Half Day       Friday, April 26th- Full Day

From our President

Sheila Glass - President Pic

At the stake of midnight of 15 Nissan in the year 2448 from creation (1313 BCE) G-D visited the
last of the 10 plagues on the Egyptians killing all their firstborn. While doing so G_d spared the
children of Israel, passing over their homes. Passover. Pharoh’s resistance was broken and he
chased the Israelites (Slaves) out of the land. They left in such a hurry that the bread they
baked as provisions for the journey did not have time to rise. Six hundred thousand adult males,
plus many more women and children left Egypt that day and began their trek to Mount Sinai and
their birth as G-ds chosen people.
Thus the message from Moses let my people go became a reality.

Passover 2019 will be celebrated from April 19 - April 27. The Hebrew month of Nissan
The first will be on April 19 after nightfall
The second Sedar will be on April 20 after nightfall
For the duration of 8 days, 7 in (Israel) Chametz (leaven )is strictly forbidden.

At Passover let us think about our 40 years of wandering the desert and try ti imagine what that
perilous journey of approximately 150 miles taught our ancestors.

We were a tribe of slaves that suddenly were free to make their own decisions. Kind of like a
group of 13 years olds in a classroom sans teacher. We knew the basics of existing but how
about organization, leadership, flexibility to change as time and situations necessitated them?

Moses !!! When he decried a rule for the good of the group who do you think gave him the most
difficult time? Probably those that were comfortable living in the day to day and not planning or
thinking about the future of long term survival.

That is when Moses went up to the Mountain and wrote with a little help from G-D “Hey guys if
you want to stay alive and build a future for those babies that Pharaoh wanted destroyed, you
better get a grip”

And so our miracle begins and our true journey starts.

Passover, celebrating the greatest series of miracles ever experienced in history is a time to
reach above rigid ideas and look to the true essence of miracles. But how?Let’s look at the
matzoh flat and without taste it is the epitome of plainness. But surround it with all the wonderfull
different flavors and tastes of the Sedar Table and we have the essence of the miracle of
Hadassah. The women who do.

Happy Passover,
