2017 REGION CALENDAR
American support and strategic partnerships are instrumental to securing Israel's safety. The President's proposed Fiscal Year 2017 Budget includes $3.1 billion in foreign aid and security assistance to Israel. This funding is part of the 10-year funding pledge that the United States made with Israel in 2007.
Israeli and American leaders are already in the process of discussing a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to be implemented when the current pledge expires in 2018. On May 13, Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Ted Deutch (D-FL), Kay Granger (R-TX) and Nita Lowey (D-NY) introduced a bipartisan resolution (H. Res. 729), expressing support for the expeditious consideration and finalization of a new, robust, and long-term Memorandum of Understanding."
The resolution also reaffirms that Israel is a major strategic partner of the United States and that it is U.S. policy to ensure Israel maintains its qualitative military edge to defend itself form all threats. Last month, 83 senators also sent a bipartisan letter to the President expressing the similar support of the new MOU and strong U.S. Israel relationship.
American foreign aid supports U.S.-Israel cooperation in the areas of security, intelligence, technology, and commerce. Visit the Hadassah National Action Center to support $3.1 billion in foreign aid to Israel for 2017 and a swift conclusion and implementation of a new, robust funding pledge.

ENJOY HADASSAH MAGAZINE ON-LINE
From our President
Shalom Hadassah Sisters,
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I tell you of the passing of two Hadassah women who have greatly influenced my life. Carol Weiss, past President of our Region and a member of the National Board, died after a long, heroic battle. She was a special woman and I shall miss her smile, laugh and mentorship. . A memorial service will be held on a future date. Details will be forthcoming. Barbara Grau, a past Education VP of our Region and one of the Machon facilitators for the past 5 years, died peacefully the same week. They both fought a courageous battle and will be missed by all
National Convention was over in July. Surely it was an experience of a lifetime- The Power of Our Dreams – and dream we did. Read the latest issue of Hadassah magazine for a recap of our exciting four days. Surrounded by 50 of you from our Region, I was on a cloud! FAR received two major awards – the first June Walker Advocacy Award for our Advocacy event in November 2015. The second was received by Lois Gordon for the Rabin Chapter, honorable mention for the Hannah Goldberg Award for a Continuing Study Group.
Then it was on to Camp Judaea in Hendersonville, NC where Yom Hadassah took place. The camp welcomed us with song and dance and presented a 4-panel artist piece, Miriam and the Dancing Women in honor of Hadassah’s continuing support of the camp. This artist piece, produced by the campers and an artist in residence, will hang in the Chadai Rochel dining hall, which is now under construction and to be completed for camp opening in June 2017.
Last Friday we had a very successful Book & Author luncheon. Ruth Behar spoke of her life as a Cuban Jew and Robert Watson, with his signature hair toss, had the audience enthralled with his latest book. Todah Rabah to Simi Rosenberg and Barbara Newman and their outstanding committee. AND -–I won the last drawing prize – A fruit basket from The Boys!!
On September 15 and 16th, Florida Atlantic Hadassah will be a sponsor at the Palm Beach Medical Society’s Summit on Aging at the Palm Beach Convention Center. We will have a non-profit exhibitor's table manned by the Nurses Council.
Please join us on Friday, September 23rd at 9:30 a.m. at the Region Board meeting at Temple Sinai as we present the 2017 slate of officers and several amendments to the by-laws of Hadassah Florida Atlantic.
If anyone would like to join us on Region teams, please call me at the office, 561-498-1012. Opportunities abound from answering phones to serving on committees and planning for the success of the Florida Atlantic Region.
