FAR Day in the District with Congresswoman Lois Frankel
On Monday, May 14th, FAR facilitated a Day in the District with Congresswoman Lois Frankel. Ten representatives from different Chapters participated in the event.
Prior to our meeting, we viewed Advocacy slides that updated Senate legislation regarding Anti-Semitism and Holocaust education.
Our agenda included National Hadassah priorities: Women's Health, Israel, Anti-Semitism and BDS, and gun violence in schools. Lois Frankel enlightened us on her participation on sponsoring legislation dealing with Israel and the BDS movement. She is also co-sponsor of gun safety bills. Her opening words were: "You cannot be silent. We must push."
Lois believes in a two-state solution for Israel. She is a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee that passed a bill alotting 3.3 million dollars for Israel.

The members of The Grove Chapter,Florida Atlantic Region recently celebrated the 💯 years of HMO’s Department of Ophthalmology. The presentation included a history of the department as well information about research and outreach that is happening currently.
Since Florida is known as The Sunshine State, the members were encouraged to wear sunglasses to protect their eyes. Table centerpieces included a “smiley face” wearing sunglasses 😎.
In keeping with the theme, over 100 pair of used glasses were collected to be donated.

From our President
“Are we there yet?” Familiar phrase, but for Hadassah Hospital it will never happen. Why? Because we are the Hospital that never sleeps.
June is the month that children are beginning their summer vacation. The excitement of summer camp, sleeping in, playing ball, meeting new friends, swimming and just having fun. The thought brings memories back to when I put my kids on a camp bus and waving a tearful farewell. Saying a silent prayer to keep them safe and then turning away wiping away tears, missing them for about five minutes and then off to do my own thing.
All children are not as lucky. Especially those lying in bed at Hadassah Hospital.
Of course the Nurses and Doctors caring for them try their best to make them smile, but that doesn’t help when they hurt too much.
That’s where you and I come in.
We cannot treat them or research ways to cure them, but we can support them through Annual Giving. Your yearly commitment is Hadassah’s way of knowing we can depend upon your generosity to give the children proper medical care, but most of all hope for their future.
Thursday, June 14 we had special Lunch and Learn devoted expressly to better understand the “how” and “why” of Annual Giving. Many FAR members attended the luncheon. We enjoyed an educational afternoon. Keepers of the Gate and Chai Society are the two ways we at Hadassah can build a positive future for the children. When you think of the small amount of money it is each month it lets us share in the hearfelt knowledge that we have given back. Please keep this in mind the next time you hug your children and grandchildren. I know I will and I do.
