ENJOY HADASSAH MAGAZINE ON-LINE
From our President
Shalom to Members, Associates & supporters of Hadassah Greater Miami,
I am writing this article while overlooking the beautiful Mediterranean on the shores of Tel Aviv. We are coming to the end of our Hadassah Florida Mission with only a few more days to go. I am leading this Mission to Israel with the other three Hadassah Florida Region Presidents and am having a phenomenal time. The itinerary took us from North in the Golan where we spoke with IDF Soldiers who guard the border with Lebanon to South into the Negev to B'nei Netzarim, a "Halutzit" (a new village that is in the process of being built on the Gaza/Egyptian Border). We were able to speak with the families who are literally holding the border. We ended that day with a visit to exquisite blacksmith, Yaron Bob. Struck by the terror of shell attacks, Yaron decided to transform something horrible into something beautiful-- and so began "Rockets into Roses". I "shadowed" BG, Barbara Goldstein, Hadassah Office in Israel Deputy Director, prior to the start of the Mission at Hadassah Ein Kerem, and accompanied her for the day during which she gave a tour to a family including going on the Helipad (donated by friends of this family) at Hadassah. We had to receive special permission and be accompanied by several Security guards). The view of Jerusalem from there was unbelievably beautiful. I also was very proud to see the beautiful Bench that members of our Region donated to, located in the "Healing Gardens" in the Sarah Wetsman Davidson Hospital Tower. Thank you to our donors who made this possible. We are still raising funds for it so please be as generous as you can to fund it. Our Mission started out with a Shechechiyanu at the Windmill and enjoyed a welcome dinner with Hadassah Leadership. We had a beautiful Shabbat dinner at our hotel accompanied by the participants of the Hadassah Associates Mission. BG gave a beautiful D'Var Torah, I was honored to lead the Birkat with two others and we ended with joyous singing and dancing! Such a magnificent Shabbat experience and a beautiful start of our Mission. Hadassah National President Ellen Hershkin surprised our group by joining us and speaking to us at the following Shabbat Dinner. I was given the honor of givIng the D'var Torah with another Region President. I encourage you all to check out our website at Hadassah.org/missions and sign up for one of our many Missions coming up throughout 2018! They will be highly discounted for 2018 so sign up now while the discounts apply! We had a top level Guide, terrific driver and accompanied by an unbelievable Host who took care of all our needs. Two of our participants had to be hospitalized and Hadassah gave them the best of care and they rejoined our group. We save lives. This is what we do.
I want to thank our Region and Chapter Boards for their leadership in having programs to enable us to support our fundraising efforts to support our Research in Service to Humanity Campaign as well helping to support Young Judaea Scholarships, Advocacy and our Youth Aliyah Villages. I want to thank all of our volunteers and staff for everything they do on behalf of Hadassah.
I look forward to seeing you at our Region Executive Board Installation Dec. 10th. Our own Dianne Gottlieb, Hadassah National Board VP and Director on our HMO Board in Israel, will be installing me as President and our other Hadassah Greater Miami Region Board Officers. We will celebrate Chanukah and you will be given the opportunity to light a Chanukah candle in someone's honor or memory. We will have a former FBI Agent speak about Safety in the Jewish Community. Please come and support your Hadassah Leadership and have a freilich time celebrating Chanukah!
I look forward to seeing you there.
Linda S. Goldstein
