The Devora Group is part of the Hewlett Chapter of the Five Towns. Our meetings are held evenings at 7:30 pm (7 when dinner is included). We are artists, educators, stay-at-home moms, doctors, librarians, nurses, lawyers, writers, a cantor and more. Devora has about 200 members; most are Life Members. We recently welcomed many new members who have transferred in to us from the Atlantic Beach chapter. Our diverse group of women includes a large age range and various levels of religious observance. Our events are all strictly kosher and open meetings are held in the evening about once a month at members' homes. Our programs run the gamut from international cooking, acupuncture, aromatherapy and reflexology to de-stressing through yoga and learning how to make tablescapes and decoupage. We have enjoyed artist evenings, wine tastings and book and author presentations. Our wonderful education program makes us well-versed in Hadassah projects and Jewish affairs in Israel, the U.S. and around the world. Each fall, our Opening Dinner Meeting features an outstanding speaker, and we open this event to men, many of whom are Hadassah Associates. We've learned from a Rabbi who donated his kidney to a stranger, from the Honorable Ronald Goldman about community issues, from life member Mindy Steinberg, an authority on Middle Eastern issues, from John Bradman, Cuban Jew and father of two of our life members, about the Jewish Community in Cuba and from past Hadassah National President Marlene Post. We’ve heard from an endocrinologist, a psychiatrist, nutritionist, and genealogist. Each November, our Jewish Book Month program features a book talk by Mira Rosenfeld Sennet, well known educator and life member. In the winter we have a Chanukah fundraiser and each spring we plan an artsy gathering. Our fundraisers have supported many important Hadassah projects and lately we’ve focused our efforts on stem cell research. Our summer book group is headed by Sarajane Giddings, life member and expert book talk moderator. We have been fortunate to hear frequent UN updates by Lynn Karpo-Lantz, life member and former Hadassah National representative to the United Nations. Our May pot-luck dinner is casual, delicious and fun. We participate in Nassau Region and Hewlett chapter meetings and events. We look forward to meeting you!
