From our President
Dear Members, Associates and Friends of TOBAY HADASSAH,
Have you ever wondered how to eloquently state what Hadassah does? Let us help you. Hadassah’s vision is of a world where our Jewish values in action create strong community and an enduring Israel. Hadassah’s promise is to connect and empower Jewish women to effect change. Hadassah’s three pillars are: empower women to advocate, build strong leadership and community, and advance health and well being. Behind all of this is our love of Judaism and Zionism.
Israel’s birthday in 1948 was marked by a declaration of war by all its surrounding Arab neighbors. In the following 67 years, there have been short-lived wars, but peaceful times have mostly been the norm, enforced by a strong and resilient Israel. Israel and Hadassah must be prepared to deal with both conflict and peace. The Gaza War last summer orchestrated by Hamas leaders in Gaza put a terrible burden on our hospitals, where doctors and nurses had to be ready to receive wounded civilians and soldiers every day.
When you acknowledge an act of goodness, you say, “thank you.” We ask you to thank Congress, and urge them to continue their unwavering support for Israel. The United States must lead the international community in advocating for the demilitarization of Gaza and Israel’s right to sovereignty, security, and self-defense. We must also be staunch supporters of a comprehensive and enforceable nuclear agreement with Iran that limits its ability to carry out its very vocal calls for Israel’s destruction. Take action today by communicating directly through an online system via the National Action Center at Hadassah.org.
Even before Israel became a state, it was Hadassah that established a health care infrastructure in the Holy Land, and a standard of excellence that continues today. Hadassah gave Israelis their first modern health facility, their first university hospital, their first bone marrow clinic, their first comprehensive cancer center, their first embryonic stem cell research center, their first liver unit, their first organ transplant unit, their first skin bank, their first trauma unit, their first DaVinci robot surgical system, and their first and only OPTIMA CT660 revolutionary Computerized Tomography.
We Hadassah women, our associates, and friends are ambassadors and educators for the next generation of caring Zionists. Let us all be proud of all that we Hadassah women do, and let us recommit ourselves to our work and unending support for all that Hadassah strives to achieve.
President, Tobay Hadassah
