From our President
“There is no organization like Hadassah — working in communities around the US to connect Jewish women and empower them to effect change through support of Israel, advancing health and wellness, and advocacy.”
These are the words of our National President, Ellen Hershkin. Words that I repeat here as they reflect my sentiments as well. There is no organization like Hadassah, a grassroots membership organization of over 300,000 who support the ideals of Zionism, health and wellness around the world and advocacy for our beliefs on women’s health and women’s economic equity, combating violence against women, immigrant rights and fight against hate, racism and white supremacy. We have accomplished so much and truly deserve the tag line: The Women Who DO!
Our plans for 2018 include the celebration of wonderful milestones such as the 100th anniversary of The Henrietta Szold School of Nursing, the 100th anniversary of Hadassah’s Department of Ophthalmology, the 100th anniversary of HMO and of course Israel’s 70th birthday! Plans are underway for two major events, a Women’s Healthcare Summit Conference in Washington DC May 15 - 17, 2018 and an incredible Celebration Mission to Israel October 7-14, 2018. You can sign up for both these events through our National website at Hadassah.Org. If you plan on attending the Women’s Healthcare Summit Conference, please let us know at the Region so we may include you in our travel plans.
Hadassah Northern New Jersey has a full calendar scheduled for 2018.
As of this writing, we hope to meet with Congressman Josh Gottheimer who will speak of his first year in government and his recent trip to Israel. We wish to include an update from our Associates on Hadassah’s fight against Alzheimer’s disease.
February 11 will be a busy day. It will begin with our Board of Directors meeting at the JCC in West Orange. Everyone is invited to attend, but all chapter portfolio holders are expected to attend. New policy platforms will be discussed as well as the importance of annual giving to be brought back to your chapters. In the evening Hadassah members will be attending the postponed concert at NJPAC featuring Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman.
The following are events that our Region Board members are planning:
March 18 will be a cooking demonstration on healthy Passover meals.
March 25 Hadassah Northern New Jersey will be co-sponsoring a film at the New Jersey Jewish Film Festival. Film and time will be announced at a later date.
April 23 will be our Annual Health Event partnering with the JCC in West Orange and St. Barnabas/RWJ Hospital.
April 29 will be our BIG GIFTS EVENT.
Please join us and let us work together to make 2018 the best year for Hadassah. I will end with Ellen’s words again:
“We believe that each individual has a moral imperative to help make our world a better place. We are so grateful to you for choosing to make a positive impact through Hadassah.”
