Day in the district with Senator Bob Menendez
On Wednesday, August 30, 2017 Hadassah Northern New Jersey was joined by representatives from Hadassah Southern New Jersey in their Day in the District meeting with Senator Bob Menendez. The members of the two New Jersey regions discussed gender equity in medicine along with women’s health issues, anti-Semitism in America today and specifically the BDS movement. Also stated were Hadassah’s platform on civil liberties protection for US citizens and resident aliens under the immigration and refugee policy statement and the reaffirmation of the gun control policy.
Senator Menendez has been a strong supporter of Israel and always responsive to Hadassah. We thanked him for the opportunity for us to advocate on behalf of 11,000 Hadassah members in Northern NJ and close to 13,500 members in Southern NJ.

From our President
Dear Hadassah Sisters:
L’Shana Tovah! As we begin the new year of 5778, it is only natural to reflect on the year past. Personally, I feel blessed with my family and friends, and feel thankful that I was able to share my good fortune through volunteering for Hadassah.
So much has occurred during my first year as Region President. But when I re-examined our mission statement,
“Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, is a volunteer organization that inspires a passion for and commitment to its partnership with the land and people of Israel. It enhances the health of people worldwide through its support of medical care and research at the Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem. Hadassah empowers its members and supporters, as well as youth in Israel and America through opportunities for personal growth, education, advocacy and Jewish continuity,”
I realized that my passion for our land and our people has grown this year as I have seen first-hand what our donations mean to the Jewish people and to medical research for all, and what Hadassah has given to me in terms of my own personal growth. Let me share my nachas with you when I tell you that my children said that they are proud of me for volunteering and pushing myself in the areas of leadership that haven’t come naturally to me. In business, we speak of return on investment, but I never thought I would say that about Hadassah’s ROI for me.
Fall has arrived and our region will be concluding the year with several events. On October 22, we will be one of eight regions hosting the Metro Symposium in New York City. Everyone is encouraged to attend. The topic will be Women’s Issues and Hadassah Update, and we will hear from Ellen Hershkin, Hadassah National President; Joyce Rabin, Hadassah International; Galit Peleg from the Israeli Consulate; a panel on Underage Marriage and Jewish Divorce; Ruth Cole, Hadassah UN Team Leader; Francine Klagsbrun, author of Lioness: Golda Meir & the Nation of Israel; and Dr. David Kaylie, surgeon at Duke University Medical Center, who has been working for several years with the ENT Department at Hadassah Hospital.
In November, we will have two events: Myrtle Wreath on November 12 where we will honor Ruth Grossberg for her service as UN Deputy Chair and for her past leadership as Northern NJ Region President. We will also honor our chapter Women of Valor for their time and commitment to Hadassah. Then on November 18, we will attend NJPAC for An Evening with Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman, two of the greatest violinists of our time.
December 19 will be our region installation of elected officials and acknowledgement of our appointed portfolio holders.
Thank you for making 5777 successful, and a happy and healthy 5778.
