SAVE THE DATE: Cause for Applause 2018
Announcing our 5th Annual Cause for Applause, honoring Dr. Merry Drench.
This is a Hadassah Rhode Island fundraiser for Brain Cancer Research.
This year we will be have a special screening of “Funny Girl” at Temple Torat Yisrael on Sunday, May 6, at 2:00. A desert reception will follow the screening. Registration Is $36.00.
This will be a great gift for Mother’s Day. Bring your mother, grandmother, daughter, granddaughter, aunts, nieces, etc. for a wonderful afternoon!
Merry Drench was an author and a popular lecturer in Physical Therapy and Behavioral Sciences. She was known for her sharp wit and great sense of humor and brought these same gifts to her decades of service and devotion to Hadassah. She was a Past President of the Western New England Region and of Hadassah Rhode Island.
Merry lost her battle with brain cancer in May 2013. Her love of musical theater makes this fundraiser a perfect way to “applaud” Merry for the wonderful person that she was.
Since the 2003 opening of the Leslie and Michael Gaffin Molecular Neuro-Oncology Laboratory at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, researchers have been focused on developing advanced diagnostic tests for brain tumors. Recent lab tests show that the same drugs successfully used for prostate cancer are also efficient in killing brain tumor cells, a finding that may change the treatment of brain tumors and bring new hope to patients.
Look for your invitation and registration in the mail.
From our President
Hadassah, The Power Of Women For Israel
Recent events show that Israel—our Jewish homeland—continues to need our support, our commitment, and our devotion. Hadassah’s policy efforts support Israel’s security, a future of peace in the Middle East and stronger US-Israel relations. Hadassah also advocates for the rights of Jewish people around the world and promotes the centrality of Israel in Jewish life, in order to foster partnerships between Israel, Hadassah, and the American Jewish community.
Hadassah Rhode Island continues to thrive, but we need your support to keep this happening. We have several fundraising events planned and hope that you will be able to join us at them to show your support.
On Sunday, March 4 at “Chai Noon, our Chai Luncheon, a dairy pot luck luncheon was held at the Wethersfield Commons clubhouse in Warwick, RI. Our speaker this year was Lisa Fishayn-Joffe, the Director of Hadassah Brandeis Institute, who spoke on the Jewish Perspective on Immigration.
Chai Society members were also honored at this event; they are friends of Hadassah who have pledged a minimum contribution of $180 each year to Hadassah. When you are a member of Chai Society, Hadassah can count on you, month after month, year after year. It is your commitment that makes the difference.
And at Cause for Applause - Sunday, May 6 at 2 PM there will be a special screening of the classic Funny Girl, in memory of Dr. Meredith Drench. Proceeds for this screening will go to brain cancer research at Hadassah Hospital.
We hope that you will plan to join us at these events and help to support the work of Hadassah. And please also mark your calendar for Tuesday, August 7 for the 8th annual Books on the Beach!
