From our President
There is so much to love about Hadassah, but perhaps the thing I love most is how much the women of Hadassah do. We live in a world that is in desperate need of tikkun olam (repairing of the world), but we also live in a world that is enriched by the beautiful traditions of our people. As women of Hadassah we strive to find a balance between celebrating the traditions of our people, educating ourselves on the important issues of our time, building friendships across generations, and repairing the world in which we live. And through all these pursuits, we work to support the State of Israel, never taking for granted that we live at a time when Israel is not a dream, but a reality.
So while medical breakthroughs are taking place and lives are being saved at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem, right here in Nashville, TN, the women of Hadassah have much that they will do. On Tuesday, January 19th at 6:30, Hadassah women will gather at the GJCC to celebrate Tu B’Shevat with a Seven Species potluck. All attendees are asked to bring a dish containing one or many of the Seven Species: dates, figs, pomegranates, grapes, olives, wheat, & barley.
On Wednesday, February 17th at 6:30 in the lobby of the GJCC, Hadassah will join forces with NCJW to create one-of-a kind matzah covers to be used at the CRC Seder taking place in April.
On Sunday, March 6th, Hadassah, PJ Library, NowGen, and Sherith Israel will sponsor a Multigenerational Hamentaschen Bake that will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Sherith Israel. Hadassah will provide the dough, and each attendee will bring a kosher filling to ensure variety. While participants will be invited to take some hamentaschen home, the majority will be served at the Hadassah Shabbat the following week.
On Saturday, March 12th, Hadassah members from all the congregations will gather at Sherith Israel to celebrate Hadassah Shabbat.
On Tuesday, April 5th, Hadassah and NowGen will sponsor a clothing exchange to benefit Dress for Success. Participants will clean out their closets and bring clothing and accessories they have not worn in the last year. Then, they will go through other people's items and claim them as their own. Essentially, one girl's trash will become another another girl's treasure! All unclaimed items will be donated to Dress for Success, whose mission it is to provide professional wardrobes to underprivileged women who would otherwise be unable to afford them.
On May 24th, we will have our Spring Fling, which will be a festive celebration at a beautiful venue not to be missed!
So much to do, and that is just in just in the spring! I hope you will join me in becoming involved in Hadassah, so that you to can be one of the many women who DO!
