The Jerusalem Netletter: January 2011
This week I danced at a huge wedding in Ramat Gan. The bride was Yehudit, an auburn-haired sabra from a Polish-Jewish family. She coordinates National Service volunteer programs in Jerusalem, including those at Hadassah Hospital. The groom, Shai is a dark-haired sabra from a Yemenite-Jewish family. He's a real estate attorney with a Hadassah connection, too. Date: 1/28/2011

Statement by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following the publication of the Turkel Commission report
On this stage, you see the transformation of the Jewish people. The Holocaust survivors here survived an inferno that transpired on our people because we lacked the power of self-defense, and with the restoration of Jewish sovereignty in the Land of Israel, we restored the capacity for self-defense. Children Are Not Simply Small Adults
A Friday Story
Many times in the course of the year, Hadassah saves the lives of people whose conditions were so serious it didn't appear they would survive. While this does not happen every day, it is not a rare occurrence either. Often it is the skill and experience of our superbly trained medical staff that make the difference. Often it is the sophisticated equipment we were fortunate to acquire that is instrumental. For one five-year-old girl, Hadassah's new Pediatric Neurosurgery Unit and its talented head, Dr. Mony Benifla, made the difference. Date: 1/21/2011

Henrietta Szold - Health Pioneer (Part 6)
The Founder’s Role in Hadassah’s Medical Program
On every level of Hadassah's work the keystone of development was the idea of teaching. The nurses taught mothers how to care for the children. The school luncheons were nutrition lessons. The bedside doctors were pupils: in the time when Palestine was isolated from the advances of medicine, courses were organized to help maintain the current of progress which was the life blood of modern medical science. Henrietta Szold - Health Pioneer (Part 7)
The Founder’s Role in Hadassah’s Medical Program
From the heart of the city of Jerusalem to what is now called Kiryat Hadassah in the Judean hills is a distance of about five kilometers, or three miles. For most of that distance a special road has been carved out of the rocks of the Judean hills. That road has been named the Henrietta Szold Road, and it leads to the great new Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center. Date: 1/17/2011

Henrietta Szold - Health Pioneer (Part 5)
The Founder’s Role in Hadassah’s Medical Program
Henrietta Szold attached superlative importance to science and scientific work in the application of the art of medicine. Without science, she stated, we have no future. Our scientific foundations are fundamental and inescapable in the development of Hadassah's health services. With that standard before her, it was natural that shortly after the organization of the Hebrew University a bond was established between its divisions of biological sciences and Hadassah. Letter To A Jewish Constituent From Gabrielle Giffords When She Was Running For Congress
Growing up, my family's Jewish roots and tradition played an important role in shaping my values. The women in my family served as strong role models for me as a girl. In my family, if you want to get something done, you take it to the women relatives! Like my grandmother, I am a lifetime member of Hadassah and now a member of Congregation Chaverim. When I served in the State Senate in Arizona, I had the opportunity to visit Jerusalem. It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Date: 1/13/2011
