Using Creativity to Effect Curing

As you know, research is almost an obsession at Hadassah. Our doctors, nurses, technicians and medical students spend many hours practicing translational medicine – taking their patients problems into the labs and searching for solutions to conditions they confront daily – with the hope that what they learn and accomplish will result in better diagnostic tools, better medications and better treatments. On Tuesday, we held our annual Hadassah Research Day. It was truly an amazing event. HMO’s young investigators – physicians and scientists – fully supported by many of you, presented the fruits of their research in different fields. Some of the topics they are investigating are: Crohn's disease; Aortic stenosis, a type of valvular heart disease; ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease; Diabetes; Pre-eclampsia, a complication of pregnancy; Lung cancer; and Liver Transplantation in children. A Standing Ovation for Hadassah Hospital in the City of Lights
A Friday Story
More than 1500 people filled the gilded auditorium and three balconies of the magnificent Theatre du Chatelet for the occasion in the presence of Israel's ambassador to France; his Russian counterpart; Simone Veil, former French Minister of Health and the first President of the European Parliament; French Cabinet ministers, mayors and deputy mayors – old friends and new. An ensemble of young musicians from St. Petersburg presented a musical tribute to Leonard Bernstein, who believed strongly in the healing power of music. Date: 9/29/2010


Healthy Baby Born After Frozen Ovarian Tissue Implant

The Growing Sarah Wetsman Davidson Tower
The view from my office window was always beautiful. I could see the Jerusalem hills and the sky. In recent years I have been watching with excitement the growing of the Sarah Wetsman Davidson Hospital Tower. Now, as the skeleton of the building is almost completed, the new tower fills most of the view, and the area of the new atrium is right down there in the front. Dr. William Danforth To Be Honored By Hadassah For His Advocacy Of Embryonic Stem Cell Research
Hadassah will honor Dr. William Danforth at Framing the Future on Sunday, September 26 at the Danforth Plant Science Center. Danforth is being recognized for his role in the passage of the Missouri Stem Cell Amendment protecting Missourians from any attempt to ban stem cell research and therapies that are permitted under federal law and available to other Americans. The Paycheck Fairness Act passed the House in January of 2009, but now sits in a Senate committee waiting to be placed for a vote. High Holiday Services on Shalom TV
For the first time on national cable television, Jewish High Holiday services will be carried across the country on Shalom TV, the free Video on Demand Jewish cable network available in more than 38 million homes. Designed for those unable to attend a synagogue service, the Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur congregational programs begin airing on Shalom TV the week of September 5. Date: 8/31/2010
