Anne Fink, from the Manchester Chapter of Hadassah, lovingly designed and created this beautiful bag—stitched with care and imagination and lined by Gloria Naftali—as a Centennial Gift to Hadassah. It will reside in our Hadassah House lobby case with great appreciation and thanks to the talented women from Manchester. We all share in the pride of the contributions of our members—of their time, their donations, their creativity. This spirit is what has made Hadassah strong over the past 100 years and what sparks our next century. Kol Hakavod!!!!

Nearly 150 Hadassah Members and Associates participated in a meaningful dedication for the opening of Hadassah New England (HNE) at 200 Reservoir Street in Needham, on Sunday October 2, 2011. HNE brings the regions of Northern New England, Southern New England, Western New England and the Boston Chapter all together under one roof.

Just as the outdoor ceremony was beginning, and as Kathy Hershfield, Northeast Area Resource Chair, 'mistress' of ceremonies, began the program, the sun peeked through the clouds and shone brightly. This sign from above set the stage for a ceremony filled with reflection, hope for the future, and prayer, as we joined together as Hadassah New England.

Kathy introduced the four Presidents, Robin Shuman, Leslie Zide, Sandra Rose and Frances Friedman (standing in for Merry Drench), and recognized past leaders. Nancy Falchuk, Immediate Past National President, reminded the crowd of special past moments created by strong women who came before us. National President Marcie Natan spoke of her recollections of attempting to create one entity in the past amongst the Big Chapter and Regions. Renée Tepper, Hadassah New England's new Managing Director, addressed the crowd with enthusiasm for what is yet to come.

Rabbi Suzanne Offit, Past President of the Boston Chapter, conducted the ceremony and the hanging of the mezuzah. She spoke eloquently about our identity, which is created by our memories. She encouraged us to cherish our memories as we move forward. The Presidents then read a poem created for this day that integrated prayer, Hadassah and commitment as we begin the New Year and Hadassah's Centennial Year.

As with every good Hadassah program the day ended with a delicious dessert reception in our new office.

Israel Fashion Show Highlights Models
Tamar Chapter of Hadassah Israel

Fashion shows can often be frustrating because the models are so young and so painfully thin that women in the audience – other than those who are very slim – simply cannot picture themselves in any of the garments being paraded. However, when Jackie Stapleton of the Tamar Chapter of Hadassah Israel asked fashion designer Lea Toren if she would contribute some items from her collection for a fundraising fashion show to benefit Hadassah’s Michaelson Institute for the Rehabilitation of Vision, Toren not only instantly agreed, but said that she would create individual designs to suit each of the models, none of whom was under 50 and most of whom were over 60.

Utilizing a mix of fabrics and opting for brilliant colors, clever layering and draping, Toren turned all her models into eye catchers. She also demonstrated how one basic outfit, with a simple variation in top, can take on a completely different appearance.

The audience thoroughly enjoyed the fashion show because everything they saw seemed to be wearable. They were thrilled with the color plays and the way in which figure flaws were camouflaged by floating fabrics.

However, Cindy's husband Ric, an Associate,, and Past President Bonnie Boring, were able to represent Hadassah. They distributed Hadassah brochures, information about membership and tzedakah boxes. Standing at the Hadassah display table they were able to tell other participants about the incredible work that Hadassah is doing in Israel and throughout the world. Newtown Group Fundraising Directory
The Newtown Group of Hadassah of Greater Philadelphia

The Newtown Group of Hadassah of Greater Philadelphia has an interesting way to raise funds. Each year they publish a membership directory for over 700 members throughout Bucks County, PA and Central New Jersey. This directory is the most important means of contacting each other during the year as the members work on Hadassah activities. Members refer to it as frequently as everyday. Local businesses or professionals advertise in the directory, giving them the opportunity to gain maximum exposure during the entire year and help to support Hadassah at the same time. The directory is in a 5" by 8" format and advertisers may purchase a quarter, half or full page.
