Pilgrimage Ends With Organ Donations at Hadassah
A 61-year-old Christian tourist from Russia suffered a massive heart attack during a pilgrimage to the holy Christian sites in Israel a few weeks ago. She was rushed to the Hadassah Medical Organization, suffering from extensive brain damage and was immediately admitted to Hadassah's Intensive Care Unit. Hadassah Researchers Discover Gene that Compromises Respiratory System
Researchers at the Hadassah University Medical Center have discovered the gene that causes primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), a rare condition that compromises the functioning of the cilia, the minute protective hairs in the respiratory system, thereby resulting in repeated lung infections, sinusitis, frequent ear infections, and fertility problems. In about half of the cases, the mutation also causes organs to develop in "mirror image" of one another, so that, for example, the heart develops on the right side of the chest instead of on the left, while the liver grows on the left and the stomach and spleen on the right. Hadasit, Hadassah’s Technology Transfer Arm, Reviews 2012’s Accomplishments

When the Hadassah University Medical Center’s physicians suggest a solution to a medical problem which can lead to the development of a new medicine or product, Hadasit, Hadassah’s technology transfer arm, explores its feasibility and supports the promotion of those viable ideas with innovation potential. Although 2012 has been “a year full of challenges for the life science industry,” says Einat Zisman, Hadasit’s Chief Executive Officer, Hadasit still signed 125 agreements for clinical trials, all to be done at Hadassah.
