Eli Finds His Future at Youth Aliyah
Some of the children in our Youth Aliyah villages are survivors of violence and cultural dislocation. Eli, a high school senior, moved to Israel from Romania with his mother and sister when he was ten. Despite her obvious intelligence, Eli's mother, an engineer, became overwhelmed with emotional problems. They became extreme: first she beat him and, when he became old enough, he hit her back. She called the police. He was referred to Meir Shfeyah Youth Aliyah village. Date: 1/16/2013

Palestinians Granted Statehood Status
After years of pursuing a Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI) at the United Nations, the Palestinians succeeded in upgrading their status to "non-member observer state." The vote—138 in favor, 9 opposed and 41 abstentions—implicitly recognizes "Palestine" as a sovereign country and opens Israel up to further attacks and delegitimization. Date: 11/29/2012
