The Greater Atlanta Hadassah chapter of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, has received a $10,000 grant from the Northwestern Mutual Foundation in recognition of financial representative Rita Loventhal’s outstanding volunteer commitment, as part of the company’s 17th annual national Community Service Award program. Hadassah International Indeed – In Saudi-Arabia Also
Arab media, in general, does not like to write positively about Israel. Saudi-Arabian media is not considered to be the most open and liberal, even within the Arab world. This is why it was quite a surprise to learn that a Saudi newspaper "Al-Watan" (The homeland), recently published an article by one of its columnists, explaining the reasons for Israel's superiority in science and technology. The article gave some general figures about the number of scientific articles per person in Israel. Hadassah continues its support of the Community Response to Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI) by co-sponsoring the Israel Action Network's online Petition Against a Unilaterally Declared Palestine . The petition calls upon the 193 Members of the United Nations to vote against endorsing a unilaterally declared Palestinian state and to promote the resumption of bilateral negotiations. Final Attempt to Renew Mid-East Peace Talks
The Middle East Quartet— the U.S., European Union, United Nations and Russia—are meeting today in a final effort to restart direct peace talks between the Israelis and Palestinians. The Quartet affirmed in a statement on July 2 its support for direct negotiations before any declaration of Palestinian statehood. The Palestinian Authority has until July 15 to file papers with the United Nations if they plan to seek recognition by the U.N. General Assembly this fall. Date: 7/11/2011

NEW YORK – Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, will host its final national business meeting before entering its centennial year, at the Palazzo in Las Vegas from the evening of Monday, July 11, through Wednesday, July 13. More than 400 national board members, delegates, associates (men supporters of Hadassah's work) and guests will gather as Hadassah celebrates achievements in membership recruitment and fundraising for a state-of-the-art medical tower under construction at its hospital in Jerusalem. Plans for Second Gaza Flotilla Halted

Plans for a second Gaza Flotilla were halted today when Greek authorities announced that the ships would not be granted the necessary departure paperwork. Hadassah Remembers Charlotte R. Bloomberg
Hadassah mourns the passing of Charlotte R. Bloomberg, an inspiration to the entire Zionist movement, who died Sunday, June 19, in Medford, Mass. She was 102. In addition to having the Mother and Child Center at Hadassah Ein Kerem named for her, Mrs. Bloomberg was the oldest living alumna of Hadassah’s premier youth program, Young Judaea, as well as a generous supporter of it. Supreme Court Decision Underscores Need for Paycheck Fairness Act
June 20th, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down a 5-4 decision in the Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., v. Betty Dukes case, denying Wal-Mart's 1.6 million female employees the opportunity to sue the retail giant collectively for gender-based employment discrimination. Hadassah co-signed an amicus brief in the case with the National Women's Law Center, American Civil Liberties Union and others in support the women's class action. Date: 6/21/2011

The date was June 6th. The year 1967. Teddy Kolleck was the Mayor of Jerusalem; Prof. Kalman J. Mann, the Director General of the Hadassah Medical Organization.
