Helene Wecker Named 2014 Ribalow Prize Winner by Hadassah Magazine
Hadassah Magazine is pleased to announce that Helene Wecker, author of the acclaimed novel The Golem and the Jinni, is the winner of the 2014 Harold U. Ribalow Prize for Jewish fiction. For the past 30 years, Hadassah Magazine has awarded the Ribalow prize annually to an author who has created an outstanding work of fiction on a Jewish theme. Wecker will be honored at a ceremony in early December in New York.

The Journal Policy, Politics, & Nursing Practice (PPNP), a SAGE Publication, has announced that Sally S. Cohen, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been named Editor-in-Chief. PPNP is a quarterly, peer-reviewed journal focusing on nursing and health policy. Cohen succeeds David M. Keepnews, PhD, JD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, who has served as Editor-in-Chief since 2004. Keepnews will now serve as Consulting Editor to PPNP.

On Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the Hadassah National Convention Major Donor Celebration Dinner in Las Vegas, Anita Levy stepped up to the microphone and joked that at the last Hadassah National Convention, she was pre-empted by the announcement of a $10 million dollar gift from Mrs. Irene Pollin to establish the Linda Joy Pollin Cardiovascular Institute. Anita offered to step aside once again if anyone wanted to top that moment.

The results of a new survey released today by Hadassah, The Women’s Zionist Organization of America (HWZOA), reveal that most women (81 percent) are satisfied with their work-life balance – although not so intensely, as only one quarter (26 percent) self-describe as “very satisfied.” According to this new survey – The Women’s Index – the demands of professional and personal lives leave one in four (24 percent) breadwinners feeling unsatisfied.

Hadassah expresses horror at learning of an act of violence against a Jewish student at Temple University last week. Hadassah deplores all forms of discrimination, harassment, intimidation, and violence against any person based on their race, ethnicity, religion, color, sexual orientation, gender, national origin or disability. We join with the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, of which Hadassah is a member, in calling for civility and security on college campuses in light of increased global anti-Semitism.
The Hadassah Foundation Awards $360,000 in Grants to U.S., Israeli Organizations

Urge Congress to Affirm Support for Israel

Let us Bow our Heads: Mourning Eyal, Gilad and Naftali
It is with a heavy heart that we learned a few hours ago that the bodies of the three kidnapped Israeli teenagers have been found in Hebron. Naftali Frankel, 16, who had dual Israeli-American citizenship; Gilad Shaar, 16; and Eyal Yifrach, 19, were abducted on their way home from school on June 12.

On Thursday, June 12, three Israeli students—Naftali Frankel (16), Gilad Shaar (16), and Eyal Yifrach (19)—were abducted on their way home from religious school in the West Bank. Naftali Frankel also has dual Israeli/American citizenship.
Hadassah Congratulates Israeli President-Elect Reuven Rivlin
Hadassah congratulates Israeli President-elect Reuven Rivlin on his election as the 10th President of Israel. Rivlin, a member of the Likud party, has been a Member of the Knesset (MK) since 1988 and served twice as Speaker of the Knesset. He also served as the Minister of Communications from 2001-2003. Rivlin, a lawyer by training, was also director and chairman of the Beitar Jerusalem Sports Association and chairman of the Institute for Occupational Safety and Hygiene.
