Poignant Art Exhibition at Hadassah Hospital
Sa'ad El-Kikh, from the village of Tsurif near Hebron, had an accident at work 18 months ago that mangled his hand. Hadassah’s Dr. Carole Pidhorz saved his hand and reattached the palm. Date: 9/8/2011

Petition: Release Alan Gross from Cuba
During the last several months, Hadassah and its coalition partners have been advocating for the release of Alan Gross, a Jewish American from Maryland arrested during a humanitarian trip to Cuba. In February, Hadassah joined the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations in urging Cuban President Raúl Castro to release Gross. Since then, Gross has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for "actions against the integrity of the state" and has lost his only appeal opportunity. Date: 8/31/2011


Prescriptions For Marijuana For Pain Relief Expected To Continue To Rise
The number of authorizations for medical marijuana could reach as high as 40,000 in the next five years, predicted Dr. Elyad Davidson of Hadassah’s Pain Management Clinic. In the past two years alone, he reported, about 6,000 patients a year have requested and received marijuana for medical purposes. Date: 8/31/2011


Women's Equality Day, 2011
The 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution tore down the last formal barrier to women's enfranchisement in our Nation and empowered America's women to have their voices heard in the halls of power. This Amendment became law only after decades of work by committed trailblazers who fought to extend the right to vote to women across America. In order to show solidarity with the people of Israel—particularly the residents of southern Israel who have been under the constant threat of attack—The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations has created a Solidarity with Israel Letter to be sent to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres. Update: Attacks on Southern Israel
Since the deadly attacks near Eilat last Thursday, Gaza militants have fired over 100 rockets and mortar shells at Israel. A tentative cease-fire was reached with various factions in Gaza—including the Popular Resistance Committee, which took credit for the attacks last Thursday—however, the rockets and shells have not stopped. Hadassah Condemns Attacks in Israel
This morning, a series of terrorist attacks occurred near Eilat, killing at least seven and injuring as many as 40. The victims of the attacks have been taken to hospitals in Eilat and Be'er Sheva and the Hadassah Medical Organization has offered assistance if needed. Date: 8/18/2011

Hadassah International Indeed – In Saudi-Arabia Also
Arab media, in general, does not like to write positively about Israel. Saudi-Arabian media is not considered to be the most open and liberal, even within the Arab world. This is why it was quite a surprise to learn that a Saudi newspaper "Al-Watan" (The homeland), recently published an article by one of its columnists, explaining the reasons for Israel's superiority in science and technology. The article gave some general figures about the number of scientific articles per person in Israel. Final Attempt to Renew Mid-East Peace Talks
The Middle East Quartet— the U.S., European Union, United Nations and Russia—are meeting today in a final effort to restart direct peace talks between the Israelis and Palestinians. The Quartet affirmed in a statement on July 2 its support for direct negotiations before any declaration of Palestinian statehood. The Palestinian Authority has until July 15 to file papers with the United Nations if they plan to seek recognition by the U.N. General Assembly this fall. Date: 7/11/2011

More than 400 national board members, delegates, associates (men supporters of Hadassah's work) and guests will gather as Hadassah celebrates achievements in membership recruitment and fundraising for a state-of-the-art medical tower under construction at its hospital in Jerusalem. Plans for a second Gaza Flotilla were halted today when Greek authorities announced that the ships would not be granted the necessary departure paperwork. Hadassah Remembers Charlotte R. Bloomberg
Hadassah mourns the passing of Charlotte R. Bloomberg, an inspiration to the entire Zionist movement, who died Sunday, June 19, in Medford, Mass. She was 102. In addition to having the Mother and Child Center at Hadassah Ein Kerem named for her, Mrs. Bloomberg was the oldest living alumna of Hadassah’s premier youth program, Young Judaea, as well as a generous supporter of it. Supreme Court Decision Underscores Need for Paycheck Fairness Act
June 20th, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down a 5-4 decision in the Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., v. Betty Dukes case, denying Wal-Mart's 1.6 million female employees the opportunity to sue the retail giant collectively for gender-based employment discrimination. Hadassah co-signed an amicus brief in the case with the National Women's Law Center, American Civil Liberties Union and others in support the women's class action. Date: 6/21/2011
