Walk on Sunshine 2014
In 2006, Suzy Esstman had a vision: to find a cure for brain tumors. Her goal was ambitious, but she believed that in order to achieve BIG, you had to dream BIG. She founded Suzy Esstman’s Walk On Sunshine as an organization that would not only raise money for brain tumor research, but incorporate her passions of community engagement, healthy living, and having fun.
Since its inception, Suzy Esstman’s Walk On Sunshine has donated over $200,000 to Hadassah Medical Organization’s Neuro-Oncology Unit, where researchers are partnering with institutions around the world, including St. Louis University, to conduct cutting-edge brain tumor research. We have helped fund major breakthroughs such as the ability to diagnose and track brain cancer through blood-born DNA, as well as the development of an inhibitor which reduces tumor cells’ resistance to chemotherapy.
How many of our best and brightest must we lose before we can cure these dreaded brain tumors? John D. Mann, like Suzy Esstman for whom Hadassah’s annual Walk On Sunshine is named, is yet another of those shining stars lost too soon –leaving a tremendous hole in the world which their extraordinary talents, commitment and drive might have filled in the years to come. Our Hadassah St. Louis Chapter was honored to have John Mann’s family join us this year as honorary chairs of our 9th annual Suzy Esstman’s Walk On Sunshine.
