|As part of this year’s Blue Book, we will be honoring longtime member Elaine Viders as she becomes the well deserved recipient of the 2013 Myrtle Wreath Award.
Hadassah’s Myrtle Wreath Award is bestowed upon individuals who have made a significant contribution to Jewish Life—in the United States or in Israel—in politics, diplomacy science, the arts or organization work. The name of the award is derived from the Hebrew translation of “Hadassah”, which means myrtle, a fragrant evergreen shrub native to Israel. The name Hadassah was actually chosen by our founder Henrietta Szold, in tribute to Queen Esther, the heroine of Purim.
The Myrtle Wreath Award will be presented during a special ceremony at our annual Membership & Installation brunch on Sunday, January 12, 2014. At this premier event, new and longtime Life Members are recognized for their lifetime commitment to Hadassah.
Elaine has a long history with our chapter. In 1975 she became one of the Charter Members of Tampa Ameet. We are grateful to Elaine for her ongoing service to Hadassah which can be highlighted since she became a Life Member in 1985. From that time, Elaine has held various positions on the Board including President from 1999-2004, Co-VP of Membership from 2007-2012, and is currently serving as Co-VP of Fundraising and Co-Chair of the Blue Book, a position she has held since 2004. She has worked tirelessly and creatively with our chapter for over 38 years, contributing to our successful programs and efforts. We appreciate our community’s continued support of Hadassah, and we thank you for joining us in honoring Elaine in this special way.
