Date With The State
On April 18-19th, 2007 sixteen women from several Hadassah chapters in the
Tampa Bay area went to Tallahassee to advocate for Stem Cell Research.
This is Hadassah’s third year promoting funding for Embryonic Stem Cell
Research in the State of Florida.
Hadassah members from across the state joined us these two days of advocacy.
Alex Sink, Chief Financial Officer for the State of Florida, was our keynote
speaker. She addressed issues facing Floridians today and spoke on what it is
like to be a woman in politics. We also heard from Brian Welsh, Executive Director
for Floridians for Hope, Inc. This group is actively involved in promoting
ESCR in Florida.
On Thursday we meet with Legislators from Pasco, Pinellas, and Hillsborough
Counties to promote HB 555/SB750(ESCR) and the Prevention First Act,
HB 1191/SB1156. We were introduced in the Senate by Senator Charlie Justice (St. Petersburg)
and in the House by Representative Elaine Schwartz (Hollywood), a Hadassah member herself.
In the capitol rotunda there was a Hadassah table where we gave out information about the
many aspects of Hadassah.
It was a most rewarding trip; we are now recognized throughout the Capitol with our Red Hadassah Folders!
