Hadassah has been a familiar entity in my life for more than 50 years. I will never forget the blue boxes we had at home in which we dropped coins into to help Hadassah.
Several years later I joined the Golda Meir Chapter of Hadassah in Atlantic County, N.J. I have been president and had several jobs to enhance my membership.
I am now the Editor of our monthly newsletter going strong at 86! My husband Dr. Joe and I were cruise addicts, covering most of the world, and enjoyed each trip.
Most of the cruise ships recognized the Jewish Sabbath on Friday nights. Prayer books, yarmulkes, challah, candles, gefilte fish and wine were generously served and the passengers who attended the service volunteered as Rabbi of that Shabbat.
After the service people volunteered their names and where they came from. To my surprise, four ladies shouted out, re from Florida and are proud members of Hadassah.
My husband and I rushed over to them - lansman! We felt at home then and our strong ties to Hadassah had followed us there. That is an example of my allegiance to Hadassah and what it means to me.
Also the Hadassah magazine exemplifies the important worldly message of Hadassah; the thin thread that ties me to lead my life to the proud fullness of being a member of Hadassah.
