A Stroll on the Beach

My anticipated retirement from gainful employment was on the horizon. The encounter and defining moment that changed my life for the better and connected me to Hadassah commenced as I was strolling on the pristine beach in Ventnor, New Jersey with my grandchildren on the way to the ocean.

I met a friend who I hadn't seen for many years and mentioned that I was retiring and she immediately invited me to come to a Hadassah meeting as her guest. We knew each other as members of ORT, where I served as treasurer and the originator of the bowling project to raise funds. I also served as treasurer of my older daughter's confirmation class and treasurer, president and parliamentarian of my sorority.

My role model and mentor with Hadassah know-how set a prime example for me. I was connected, motivated, inspired and fully immersed after one year of learning and listening at the Henrietta Szold meetings.

I became a Life Member, my husband an Associate, and my two daughters and four granddaughters are Life Members. I attended a Leadership Training Program and a Convention in New York. If I ever wanted to get involved with Hadassah, this would be the ultimate time to do so when I received a phone call in 2006, my second year as a member of Hadassah, from the Nominating Committee offering me the position of Vice President of Tzedakah. I felt honored, thrilled and excited to get involved by seizing this wonderful opportunity!

I appreciated my moment of connection as the course of my life was redirected for the better. This led to my becoming who I was meant to be. I held this Vice President of Tzedakah position for four years, and became a Founder in 2007. I felt "warm fuzzies" daily just by being a Hadassah philanthropist.

At a "crisis" Board meeting it seemed like a good time for me to "step up" to be the Co-President of the Henrietta Szold group, -- I was committed to find the right fit. I ensure that I found in Hadassah the satisfaction of a good deed. I feel my life has changed since I attended that first Hadassah meeting.

The quality of my life has been put on a higher level and strengthened since I became an active member/leader of Hadassah. I feel an inner sense of pride knowing that I share my time and finances to strengthen the partnership with Israel. Hadassah works to improve the quality of life for all the people of Israel and to strengthen Jewish life in the United States. Hadassah is about people, about changing lives, about Tikkun Olam - making the world a better place. Hadassah focuses on Health, Education, Youth and the Environment.

Hadassah changes lives, one person at a time.
