The Associates of the Chicago Chapter of Hadassah presided over a phenomenally successful "Special Night of Spirits," on a Monday night in January, 2008. The event was held at a fine restaurant and raised approximately $14,000 for stem cell research at Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem.
The event garnered 15 new Associates for the Chicago Chapter of Hadassah and had an elite attendance of 50. It was centered on a bourbon tasting sponsored by Bruce Jacobson of Heaven Hill Distilleries and featured nationally renowned bourbon expert Mark Gruber, spirit and wine educator at Northwestern University, Luxury Spirit Specialist for Southern Wine and Spirits of Illinois and author of numerous publications on the subjects of wine and spirits.
The event chair spoke about the significant strides Hadassah has made in stem cell research which has and will have a life-changing effect on victims of Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, ALS, diabetes and spinal cord injuries. Hadassah is a leading institution in stem cell research.
The National Associates Chairman, Howard G. Kaplan, spoke about the support Hadassah's over 30,000 Associates have given to stem cell research as well as to other Hadassah projects which include Hadassah Medical Organization, Youth Aliyah rescue programs, Young Judaea Camps and youth chapters, Hadassah College Jerusalem and the Jewish National Fund.
