LARGEST WOMEN'S ZIONIST ORGANIZATION GATHERS IN LAS VEGAS FOR ANNUAL NATIONAL BOARD AND BUSINESS MEETINGS
Hadassah members celebrate millions of dollars raised, thousands of new members
NEW YORK – Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, will host its final national business meeting before entering its centennial year, at the Palazzo in Las Vegas from the evening of Monday, July 11, through Wednesday, July 13. More than 400 national board members, delegates, associates (men supporters of Hadassah's work) and guests will gather as Hadassah celebrates achievements in membership recruitment and fundraising for a state-of-the-art medical tower under construction at its hospital in Jerusalem.
"This meeting comes at an exciting time for Hadassah," said Hadassah National President Nancy Falchuk. "We have so much to celebrate. We have added 29,000 new members and associates to our ranks of almost 300,000 since we kicked off our centennial membership drive in January, and as of May 31, we had raised $257 million toward our Sarah Wetsman Davidson Hospital Tower in Jerusalem."
Hadassah anticipates that it will begin treating patients in the tower in March of next year. The tower, estimated at a budget of $363 million, remains Hadassah's top fundraising priority. The organization has outpaced itself this year, already raising, by May 31, $18 million toward the 2011 campaign goal of $20 million. Funds raised this year include five gifts of $1 million or more each.
Pillars of the meeting will include:
Hadassah National President Nancy Falchuk's farewell speech, at a gala dinner
Tuesday, 8-11 p.m. PDT, Galileo Ballroom
Shifting Sands: Israel and its Neighbors – The Changing Landscape, a panel featuring Jacob Dayan, Consul General of Israel in Los Angeles; Ester Kurz, Director of AIPAC Legislative Strategy and Policy and moderator Robert Fisher, President and CEO of the Nevada Broadcasting Association
Wednesday, 9-10 a.m. PDT, Venetian Showroom
Installation of Hadassah's 25th National President Marcie Natan
Wednesday, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. PDT, Venetian Showroom
NOTE: The installation, Natan's acceptance speech and a dynamic multi-media presentation on Hadassah's impact on the land and people of Israel will be broadcast live via online feed available at www.hadassah.org/live.
"I am very pleased that Hadassah leadership from throughout the United States will be in Las Vegas to pass the torch into Hadassah's second century," said Roselle Ungar of New Orleans, National Business Meeting Co-Chair. "This will be an historic meeting – our final national business meeting before we convene in Jerusalem in October 2012 to celebration Hadassah's centennial."
Sara Aronson of Boston, also National Business Meeting Co-Chair, echoed Ungar, "As an Israeli-American looking at this gathering of Hadassah leadership representing 50 states and Israel, I am filled with excitement, honor and privilege to be a part of this annual meeting that connects me with my homeland, Israel, and with so many women so engaged in Hadassah's work in health care, education, youth development and volunteerism."
A full schedule of meeting events is available upon request.
