The National Associates Team is proud and excited to announce that its $2M goal in support of stem cell research at the Hadassah Medical Organization has been reached! It was the vision and inspiration of Howard Kaplan, z'l, former president of the National Committee of Hadassah Associates that ignited this initiative with the support of the NCHA Executive Board.
At the time of Howard's passing last year, the NCHA Executive Board decided to honor the memory of Howard Kaplan by working to complete their $2M goal with final $100,000 to be raised in memory of him. Through the efforts of the Associates and many Chapters across the country, Howard's vision was realized.
Last May, the Kaplan's home Chicago Chapter held an extremely successful "Celebration" Gala in honor of Howard, which included dinner, dancing, raffle prizes and a silent auction. Dr. Ehud Kokia, Director General, HMO, was the featured guest speaker. Those who attended the event learned about the life-saving possibilities* provided by stem cell research for the hundreds of millions of people around the globe who suffer from Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, macular degeneration, heart disease, diabetes, spinal cord injuries, as well as other serious illnesses.
Thanks to the superb leadership of Ada Rabinowitz and Lorelei Rosenthal, Co-Chairs, Ruth Ann Freedman, President, and Marlene Kaplan, National Vice President, more than $200,000 was raised for Hadassah that night with $133,000 of it designated to the Associates Stem Cell initiative. This amount, combined with the $50,000 raised by the National Associates Team, Associates, and chapters across the country, brought the grand total for the Associates Stem Cell Research initiative to $2.1M.
Following a wise adage to dream big, Howard Kaplan z'l and the Associates have done so and reached beyond this dream. Hadassah Associates are Men with a Mission who make a difference!
