Just before Passover I would like to share some important developments happening at our College and which I believe will have far-reaching benefits for Jerusalem and Israel.
At the start of the year, we initiated our new Career Counseling Center, established thanks to the generosity of the Rothschild Caesarea Foundation. The new Center will provide professional assistance to every student to prepare for entry to the workforce and to identify promising career opportunities.
We are creating an Alumni Association, made possible through the strong support of The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation. This new Association will mobilize graduates to support their "alma mater" and serve as a model of "giving back" for other institutions of higher learning in Israel.
In January 2013, we opened our first pre-academic preparatory program for 150 ultra-Orthodox students at a learning center on the edge of Jerusalem's Meah Shearim neighborhood. As the number of interested and qualified students far exceeded our expectations, additional pre-academic classes will open in the spring. Funded by the Council for Higher Education with supplementary support from the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles and Friedberg Charitable Foundation, this program shows great promise to bring ultra-Orthodox "haredim" into higher education and the workforce, and in doing so, ensure a better, stronger future for Jerusalem and Israel.
We anticipate the opening of our International School for Overseas Students in July 2013 bringing wonderful young people from all parts of the world to discover Jerusalem and benefit from an enriching academic experience.
Finally, we look forward to breaking ground for the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust Interdisciplinary Science Center at our annual Board of Trustees meeting to be held on June 17, 2013.
All of these major initiatives were realized thanks to the help of dear friends of the College from Israel and around the world. Working together and with your support, we will ensure a strong future for Jerusalem and Israel.
"Chag Pesach Sameach!"
