NEW YORK— Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, today expressed support for the United States, Israel and the Palestinians, who are coming together this week for direct negotiations toward Middle East peace. Marcie Natan, national president of Hadassah, released the following statement:

On behalf of Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, and our members, supporters and associates around the world, I applaud Secretary of State John Kerry for his dedication to bringing together senior Israeli and Palestinian officials for peace talks. Hadassah supports Prime Minister Netanyahu as he seeks to ensure Israeli's security while demonstrating leadership in establishing peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

Every day, at Hadassah's hospitals in Jerusalem, Arab and Israeli doctors work alongside each other with a blind eye toward patients' religious or ethnic backgrounds. Every day, Hadassah's hospitals treat patients from across the Middle East – Jews, Muslims, Christians, Israelis, Arabs, all too often experiencing personally the pain and suffering that has resulted from violence and unrest. Just as our own direct care for and contact with all parties in the region have long served as our own bridge to peace, so too do we hope that these direct talks between the parties will also serve to do the same for peace in the Middle East on a much larger scale.

We find ourselves at a crucial moment, and though Prime Minister Netanyahu will inevitably have to make difficult decisions—as he has done before—to bring peace and move forward, the conversations this week represent a significant starting point. With representatives of the Palestinian Authority at the table together with the Israelis, both parties' commitment to progress will hopefully be realized.
