Hadassah Wishes Senator Kennedy Well
(New York, NY -- May 20, 2008) -- Hearing the sad news of Senator Ted Kennedy's diagnosis with a malignant brain tumor, Nancy Falchuk, National President of Hadassah, made the following statement:
"As a constituent of Senator Kennedy's, and someone who has long admired him , I am deeply upset about the news of his illness, but confident in the Senator's tough spirit to fight for his health. I know that he and his family will marshal their legendary strength to face the tough days ahead.
"Senator Kennedy has devoted his life to championing the issues I and Hadassah hold dear -- genetic non-discrimination, health care reform and women and children's rights. Tomorrow, thanks in large part to Senator Kennedy's stewardship, President Bush will sign the Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act (GINA) (H.R. 493), into law. For over twelve years, Hadassah has made passing GINA our top domestic advocacy priority. Senator Kennedy was instrumental in drafting the legislation and securing its passage. As he faces this difficult illness, the 300,000 members and associates of Hadassah send their heart-felt wishes to Senator Kennedy for a full and speedy recovery and many more years devoted to public service."
