HADASSAH EXPRESSES OUTRAGE OVER CONTINUING STATEMENTS BY IRANIAN LEADERS

(New York, NY -- October 31, 2005) -- June Walker, National President of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, expressed outrage today over reported statements by Iran’s leaders calling for Israel’s destruction.

“Iran's former president Mohammad Khatami was quoted by Agence France Presse today as criticizing the remarks because they could ‘create economic and political problems in the world,’ not because they are wrong.

“Last week’s comments by Iran’s new president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, calling for Israel to be ‘wiped off the map,’ are reprehensible and a shocking reminder of the long-term intentions of the Iranian regime, which has supported terrorism against innocent Israelis for more than two decades. We call upon the world community to condemn the Iranian regime for its threat to international peace and continued development of its nuclear weapons capabilities.”
