HADASSAH APPLAUDS TODAY’S ANNOUNCEMENT OF MAGEN DAVID ADOM’S ADMITTANCE TO INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE FOR THE RED CROSS
(New York, NY -- June 21, 2006) -- Hadassah, The Women’s Zionist Organization of America, applauds today’s announcement from Geneva that Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel’s emergency services organization, has been admitted and granted its rightful status as a member of the International Committee for the Red Cross.
In a statement today, June Walker, National President of Hadassah, said: “We are very gratified that the International Conference of the Red Cross meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, today ratified Israel’s admittance to the International Committee for the Red Cross. With this vote, the ICRC redresses a wrong that has existed since Israel’s founding, and the last vestiges of Israel’s exclusion from the world health community have hopefully been erased.
“Friends of Israel, worldwide, owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the leadership of the American Red Cross for their steadfast support of Israel’s inclusion in the world body.”
