A CENTURY LATER, TEL YEHUDAH CAMPERS VISIT THE CITY WHERE YOUNG JUDAEA’S YOUTH MOVEMENT BEGAN

A group of teens from Camp Tel Yehudah, Young Judaea’s National Senior Leadership Camp in Barryville, NY, recently visited the Stanton Street Shul on New York City’s Lower East Side. Rabbi Ramie Arian, Young Judaea Director, told the assembled campers that they were meeting almost 100 years to the day that Young Judaea was founded—and a mere three blocks from the spot where the youth movement began.

The campers met Marion Blumenthal Lazan, who told them the dramatic story of her childhood experience in the Holocaust. The campers were riveted, and deeply moved, by her address.

Young Judaea, now celebrating its 100th anniversary, is the oldest Zionist youth movement in the United States. It has been sponsored exclusively by Hadassah since 1967.

Camp Tel Yehudah, Young Judaea’s culminating camping experience, nurtures and empowers the leaders of tomorrow’s Jewish community.
