|2010 Judith Epstein Young Leadership Award Runner-Up|
(Hollywood, FL – July 25, 2010) – Eleven women from the Harrisburg Chapter, Northern
Seaboard Region, were runners-up for the 2010 Judith Epstein Young Leadership Award
for founding the Young Women’s Council of Harrisburg. The
award was announced at Hadassah’s National Convention in Hollywood, FL. Hadassah
presents this honor each year to young leaders whose community project most
successfully promotes Hadassah.
The Young Women’s Council of
Harrisburg was created in the summer of 2009 to target and engage young members
and non-members in the Harrisburg area.
Throughout the past year, 69 young women participated in a series of
social, educational, and fundraising events hosted by the Council. Through these events the chapter gained
11 new members, three new life members, and five new leaders for their
chapter’s board. The Council has
already started planning for several events scheduled to occur between August
2010 and May 2011.
Robin Rosenthal is the chair
of the Young Women’s Council.
Other members of the planning committee include Helene Caplan, Shari Dym,
Jill Kusic, Andrea Lieber, Helene Loux, Luisa Narins, Bonnie Piesner, Tammy
Reid, Rosette Roth and Mindy Solomon.
The Judith Epstein Young
Leadership Award was named for past national president Judith Epstein, who was
an ardent advocate for young women. The award was created in 1991 to recognize
the achievements of emerging Hadassah leaders who bring visibility to the
1912, Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America is the largest
women’s, largest Zionist, and largest Jewish membership organization in the
United States. In Israel, it supports medical care and research, education, and
youth institutions, and reforestation and parks projects. In the US, Hadassah promotes health
education, social action and advocacy, volunteerism, Jewish education and
