Canton Resident Elected To Hadassah Foundation Board

Susan Wilkof, Hadassah National Board member, elected to first two-year term

NEW YORK – The Hadassah Foundation, which seeks to augment the work of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, by improving the status, health and well-being of women and girls in the United States and Israel, elected new members to its board of directors and reelected current members, announced Nancy Falchuk, National President of Hadassah, and Carol M. Joseph, Foundation Board Chair. Board members were elected to serve two-year terms that began January 1 and will end on December 31, 2012.

Susan Wilkof of Canton, is a member of the National Board of Hadassah and chaired the 100th anniversary celebration for Young Judaea in 2009. Previously, she served as President of Hadassah’s Central States Region, Organization Vice President, Region Service Coordinator, and Marketing Specialist for the Central States Region. She also served as the Canton Chapter President, Membership and Fundraising Vice President, Constitutional Review Committee Chair and Donor Chair. She was selected to participate in the first Young Leaders Mission to Israel in 1996 and received the President’s Award in 1995.

“Joining the Hadassah Foundation allows me to help women and girls in Israel and the U.S. lead richer, more independent lives,” Wilkof said. “By financially enabling women to pursue their educational and entrepreneurial dreams, the Foundation is helping not just the women and girls we serve, but society as a whole, in attaining greater stability and independence. What an honor it is to know I am a part of such a diverse group of Jewish women that is making a direct difference in people’s lives.”

Additionally, Wilkof was a member of the 15th Class of Leadership Stark County in 2001-02, and served on the board of Families First where she chaired the Marketing Committee. Deeply involved in the Jewish community, Susan has served on the boards of the Canton Jewish Community Federation, Canton Jewish Community Center, and Shaaray Torah Synagogue, chairing several committees for each organization. In 1991, she was awarded the Canton Jewish Community Federation’s Young Leadership Award.

Wilkof earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Miami University. She taught for several years and later joined her husband, Sam, in their manufacturing business, where she manages web site development, public relations and corporate functions. The Wilkofs are Hadassah Centennial Founders. Their three sons, Jonathan, a Year Course graduate, Michael, and Evan, are all Hadassah Associates and have traveled to Israel together on Hadassah sponsored missions.

The Hadassah Foundation Board of Directors is comprised of 18 women, including members of the National Board of Hadassah, other members of Hadassah and representatives from the Jewish community at large.

The Hadassah Foundation is dedicated to refocusing the priorities of the Jewish community through funding innovative and creative projects that serve women and girls from diverse cultural groups within Israel and the Jewish community in the United States. The foundation is a philanthropic pioneer in the fields of economic security for low-income Israeli women and leadership and self-esteem programs for adolescent Jewish girls in the United States. Since 2000, the Hadassah Foundation has awarded more than $5 million in grants to nearly 60 nonprofit organizations.

“The members of the Hadassah Foundation Board are extraordinary women who have demonstrated a unique commitment to progress for women and girls, either in their professional work or in their philanthropic efforts,” Joseph said. “It is the combination of their diverse backgrounds and experiences that ultimately allows the foundation to carry out its crucial work in the realm of social change from a perspective rooted in Jewish values.”
