Hadassah joins the international call for a minute of silence at the opening of the 2012 Summer Olympics, on July 27, to remember the 11 Israeli athletes murdered at the Munich Olympic Games 40 years ago.
Other supporters around the world include 80,000 individuals, and the Parliaments of Canada and Australia; the European Jewish Parliament; Flemish Sports Minister Philippe Muyters; the London Assembly; the United States Senate; and the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee. The head of the International Olympic Committee previously rejected an official request for a minute of silence from Israel's Foreign Ministry.
Hadassah National President Marcie Natan urges all Hadassah members and friends to sign the petition at Change.org and to watch the video featuring students from Catholic University of America.
"Let's add our voices to the good and thoughtful people around the world, Jewish and Gentile, who want to honor the spirit of the Olympics and remember these athletes who died at the hands of terror because they were Jews."
