Farewell Diary

Dear Friends,

By the time you read this, I imagine you will have heard that I have resigned my position of Director General of the Hadassah Medical Organization. Regardless of my personal decision, I believe that HMO management and staff will do their utmost to ensure that Hadassah will continue to be a leader in Israel and throughout the world – that it will continue to provide excellent medical care to the citizens of Jerusalem and Israel, that it will continue to perform cutting-edge research to advance the frontiers of medicine, and that it will continue to give future generations of doctors, nurses and medical professionals exceptional education and training.

I say this with certainty because of you and your dedication. Even before I became Director General, I understood that Hadassah's donors and supporters provide the strength and vitality essential to this outstanding Medical Center. You are truly the oxygen and life blood that keep the HMO heart beating and allow the truly dedicated staff to successfully fulfill their daily mission, while heralding in the medical and patient care of the future.

Even as HMO navigates these difficult times, I trust its commitment to ongoing plans and projects will remain resolute – that it will continue to advance and strengthen clinical, research and educational programs it has planned, that throughout the coming year, the transfer of patients from the old building into the Sarah Wetsman Davidson Hospital Tower will continue as scheduled, and that it will pursue its plans to upgrade the services provided to patients at Hadassah-Mt. Scopus.

Hadassah has been integrally entwined in the life and landscape of Jerusalem for nearly a century. For years – and even decades – with your partnership, Hadassah has been synonymous with health and healing, compassion and caring. I know that with your steadfast support, the Hadassah Medical Organization will continue to move forward to an even more distinguished future.

Before I conclude this, my last Diary entry, I would like to call your attention to the blog written by Paul Levy, former CEO of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MA, who spent the past two weeks with us at our hospitals runningahospital.blogspot.com. I am most appreciative of his compliments and comments – but especially of the effort he expended to translate the message I sent to the outstanding men and women of the Hadassah Medical Organization, which reflects many of my personal convictions and deepest thoughts.

Yours,
Ehud

Professor Ehud Kokia, MD, MHA
Director General
