Hadassah International Update

Hadassah International has been active over the past few months in Moscow, Melbourne, London and Brussels, raising funds for Hadassah's hospitals at Ein Kerem and Mount Scopus, while opening new doors and telling the Hadassah story around the world.

Moscow: Hadassah International, in partnership with Forbes, Christie's Auction House, and the Israel Embassy in Russia, launched its first Russian fundraising event at the new Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center in Moscow on Thursday evening, June 6, 2013. Eighty five exclusive guests gathered to support the Hadassah Medical Organization's growing partnership between Jerusalem and the Moscow Health Ministry, building quality healthcare for the Russian community. Prof. Eitan Kerem, Head of Pediatrics at the Hadassah Medical Organization, represented the Hospital and emphasized the large number of Russian children being cared for at the Pediatric department at Hadassah.

Australia: Hundreds of Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank will have access to improved health care at the Hadassah Medical Center thanks to a unique multi-faith partnership that was launched on May 24,2013 at a media conference in Melbourne, Australia.Entitled Project Rozana, this multi-faceted endeavor, endorsed by the health ministry of the Palestinian Authority, is being brought to fruition by the Hadassah Australia Foundation, Anglican Overseas Aid, and Hadassah Medical Organization. Its goal is three-fold:

  • To provide pediatric intensive care at Hadassah Medical Organization to Palestinian children with acute medical needs
  • To train Palestinian doctors from the West Bank and the Gaza Strip in pediatric specialties at HMO
  • To train Palestinian psychologists and trauma counsellors at Hadassah

London: On Sunday, June 2, 2013 Hadassah United Kingdom and Young Hadassah UK took an open-topped bus float to be part of the UK community's "Closer to Israel" Parade to celebrate Israel's 65th Anniversary. Hadassah's message of "Building Bridges through Medicine" and "Jew, Christian, and Moslem--we're all the same inside" resonated so well with other medical charities that Hadassah UK was joined on our medical bus by ShaareZedek, Laniado, and Magen David Adom Emergency Services.

Belgium: Eighteen months ago, Prof. Maurice Sosnowski, President of Hadassah Belgium and a delegation of doctors from the Bordet Institute met with their counterparts at the Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem. Finally, after months of anticipation, the agreement between the two institutions was signed. The recently launched joint research projects enable Hadassah Belgium to receive a government grant in cooperation with the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. To celebrate this event, on June 27, 2013 Hadassah Belgium organized a panel discussion followed by a cocktail party at the Cercle de Lorraine in Brussels. A passionate plea was made for the need to support scientific and cultural initiatives when the goal is achieving peace in the region.
