|39 Years after Roe v. Wade|
January 22nd was the 39th anniversary of the historic Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision, which established a woman’s right to reproductive choice. Advocates on both sides of the issue have taken this opportunity to galvanize thousands of supporters, hosting marches across the country and online.
Activists opposed to reproductive rights are working hard to prevent and reverse laws that protect a women’s right to choice. Members of the congressional leadership spoke yesterday at the March for Life rally—reaffirming their commitment to defund women’s heath services, decrease access to reproductive coverage and elect politicians who will work to oppose and overturn Roe v. Wade.
Personhood amendments—legislation and ballot initiatives that would declare a fertilized egg a person— were defeated last fall in states like Mississippi, but are now gaining support in Ohio and Kansas, with more expected in the months to come.
