Hadassah Joins Jewish Energy Covenant Campaign

Today, in honor of Tu B'Shvat, Hadassah reaffirms its commitment to the environment and proudly announces its participation in the Jewish Energy Covenant Campaign. Hadassah National President Marcie Natan was one of 50 Jewish leaders—from across the political and religious spectrum—to join the campaign earlier this week by signing the " Jewish Environment and Energy Imperative" declaration.

The leaders set the goals of significantly lowering greenhouse-gas emissions, advocating for energy independence and security, and reducing the Jewish community's energy consumption 14% by 2014—the next 'sabbatical' year in the Jewish calendar and traditionally a time to refrain from impacting the earth.

The declaration also states, "The need to transform the world's energy economy while addressing global climate change is not only a religious and moral imperative, it is a strategy for security and survival."

Dedicate! Read the full Jewish Environment and Energy Imperative declaration and pledge to reduce your energy consumption.

Advocate! Learn about the Don't Fund Terror Campaign and urge your Senators to make energy security policy and climate change national priorities.

Educate! The Jewish Energy Covenant Campaign is coordinated by the Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life (COEJL), an initiative of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA). Click here for additional information about COEJL and the multitude of resources it provides.
