Hadassah National Board Votes on Policy Issues

Yesterday, Hadassah concluded its winter board meeting by voting on two key policy issues. The National Board of Hadassah reaffirmed the statement it made in 2000 in support of stronger gun control legislation and expanded it to call for a ban on assault weapons. The National Board also approved a resolution reaffirming its commitment to and support for freedom of worship for all women at the Western Wall.

Gun Control

"Over a decade ago, when we released our gun control statement in 2000, Hadassah recognized that gun control laws did not go far enough—nor were enforced rigorously enough—to help prevent the incidents of violence that continue to plague our schools, workplaces and communities," said Hadassah National President Marcie Natan. "In recent months and years, we have seen too many of these tragedies, and it is time that our nation takes all necessary action to enact laws that will protect our citizens – and especially our children – from such violence."

Prayer at the Western Wall

The Women's Prayer at the Western Wall Resolution applauded Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's request for the Jewish Agency for Israel to study and provide recommendations regarding prayer at the Kotel. As a member of the Jewish Agency Board of Governors, Hadassah looks forward to participating in this important effort and hopes that a resolution can be reached that will allow all women to pray, individually and collectively, at the Kotel freely, without harassment, and in accordance with their own religious practices.
