Today, thousands of women and men from across the country are meeting with legislators and rallying on the National Mall for Stand Up for Women’s Health Lobby Day. Amidst an increasingly tense political climate, they will speak out with one voice—urging Congress to support women’s health and women’s reproductive rights.
Take the opportunity to add your voice to theirs. Show your support for women’s health and reproductive services by attending local events, signing petitions and contacting your legislators or local media. A suggested letter follows below, which can also be used as talking points for bulletins, letters to the editor or social media posts.
I am contacting you today in honor of Stand Up for Women’s Health Lobby Day. I urge you not to support the series of anti-choice legislation currently in Congress, including the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act (HR 3), the Protect Life Act (HR 358) and the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act (HR 217). These acts would limit access to important women’s health and family planning services and deprive women of their right to make health care decisions privately, in consultation with medical advice, and in accordance with their own religious, moral and ethical values.
Hadassah opposes any attempts to restrict, through state administrative regulations, legislation, or court action, the right to reproductive choice and/or use of family planning programs delivering any and all services. Hadassah urges chapters to join in coalitions with freedom of choice advocacy groups, participating as full members in pro-choice activities.
– Hadassah Reproductive Choice Policy Statement, July 1992
