Urge Congress to Oppose H.R. 3
Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 4, the House will vote on the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act (H.R. 3)—the most recent attack on women's reproductive rights from Congress and state legislatures across the country.
This legislation would not only cement the Hyde Amendment—the current ban on federal money funding abortion, which curtails medical options for low-income women receiving subsidized healthcare—but institute more restrictions that go far beyond today’s law.
Under H.R. 3, employers and patients whose insurance covers abortion would be denied normal tax deductions and credits for all medical coverage, regardless of whether abortion coverage was ever used. This denial amounts to a significant tax increase that would affect 87 percent of insurance plans nationwide. The bill also prevents state-based insurance exchanges from offering plans that cover abortion, significantly restricting comprehensive healthcare access for women and families.
