Collaborations Continue Through Hadassah Medical Center and Cincinnati Children’s Partnership
Dr. David Linton
A long-standing collaboration between the Hadassah University Medical Center and the Belfast (Ireland) City Hospital Trust Cardiac Anesthesia Department, which began with guest lectures in Israel and Ireland, has led to a joint research project using a ventilator invented in Israel.
Prof. David Linton, head of Hadassah's Intensive Care Unit, gave several guest lectures at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast a number of years ago—among them, a talk about the management of swine flu in Hadassah's ICU.
Reciprocating, Dr. William Thomas, consultant in the Belfast Trust Cardiac Anesthesia Department, gave a lecture at Hadassah about renal failure and the research conducted in his department on the subject. The Belfast City Hospital Trust is a 900-bed modern university teaching hospital providing local acute services and key regional specialties, including renal medicine as well as a comprehensive range of cancer services. The current joint research, which investigated the benefits of using an external negative pressure ventilation system on cardiac patients post-surgery, will be highlighted shortly in an international publication.
