|Hadassah Educates Local Community|
Greater Miami Region of Hadassah
Greater Miami Region of Hadassah and the Consulate General of Israel to Florida and Puerto Rico recently presented a program on Israel to the local community at the Greater Miami Jewish Federation.
Judy Shereck, a member of Hadassah's National Board and Chair of Israel, Zionist, and International Affairs (IZAIA), discussed Zionism, stressing the importance of Hadassah members to carry on the legacy of the organization's founder, Henrietta Szold. "She (Szold) died before the establishment of the State of Israel," Shereck remarked. "However, her legacy lives on in us — in Hadassah. We are the daughters of Henrietta Szold. We are the ones who carry the mantle of practical Zionism."
Chaim Shacham, Israel's Consul General to Florida and Puerto Rico, discussed Israel's history, wars, present and future. He spoke about Israel's challenge in facing delegitimization and informed the audience that the way to strengthen Israel's legitimacy is by speaking out. "We have new tools at our disposal," he added. "We have the Internet. We have media. We have the ability of every one of us to reach our own network and that network reaches more people. We have the ability to speak directly with our elected representatives."
