|Northeast Region Holds Leadership Retreat|
Hanna Pollack, Jamie Kotler, Nancy Falchuk
Nearly 70 women from five Northeast regions--Western
New England, Northern New England, Upper Mid-Atlantic, Southern New England,
and Connecticut--attended the Hadassah Northeast (HNE) Leadership Retreat
Shabbaton November 15-17, 2013. Beautiful autumn weather enhanced the retreat’s
setting, the luxurious Cranwell Resort and Spa in the Berkshires.
Sessions included an update on Hadassah and on
Hadassah’s new women’s heart health initiative “Every Beat Counts,” facilitated
by the immediate past National President Nancy Falchuk. Hanna Pollack, National
Leadership chair, led two leadership sessions focusing on adapting to
diversity--both personality-wise and generational--among our members and how
best to take advantage of those differences. A final session led by Hanna
explored how every member can choose her own way to make an impact both in her
daily life and in her Hadassah life.
Attendees were treated to a lovely Kabbalat Shabbat,
a lively Torah study discussion and a peaceful Havdallah, led by rabbinical
student and new life member Jamie Kotler, of Brookline, Mass.
Attendees made Chanukah cards and friendship
bracelets for Jewish soldiers, and retreat centerpieces were made of canned
goods, which were later donated to local food pantry, Rachel’s Table.
16-member team, under the expert guidance of coordinator Myra Glansberg and
advisors Phyllis Berlow and Judy Schatz, planned the event down to the smallest
detail. The attendees will continue to benefit from follow-up activities,
including mentorship opportunities and periodic discussions. The retreat was
sponsored in part by a grant from the Harold Grinspoon Foundation.
