October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast Cancer Update:
Early Detection and Treatment

by Dianne Issenberg

As a breast cancer survivor of over twenty years, I know first-hand the importance of early detection, a correct diagnosis, and treatment options. Equally important is finding out the "right" facts about breast cancer. Over the years, new techniques and modalities are the result of dedicated researchers and physicians.

The Future is Now:
New Ways of Detecting Breast Cancer

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Hadassah's Health & Wellness Team presented a special program at Hadassah's national headquarters: The Future is Now: New Ways of Detecting Breast Cancer.

The presentation featured Dr. Tamar Sella, MD, Director of Hadassah Medical Organization's Diagnostic Breast Imaging Center, Live from Jerusalem; Dr. Donna D'Alessio, MD, Diagnostic Radiologist at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (shown above); and Patricia Vallon, Hadassah Life Member and Breast Cancer Survivor.

It's catching on. Celebrating the Ta-tas, which began with the Charlotte, NC Chapter, is a new way to raise awareness for breast cancer. Women in the Florida Central Region got together and had their breasts painted in the manner of Van Gogh, Keith Haring and Rosie the Riveter. More events are planned.
